Impression

Two takes on the same idea. I pulled the car over during a fall rain, photographing straight through the windshield as the storm passed overhead.

The first was taken while the raindrops were still settling on the glass, you can see individual drops, each one catching and refracting the color behind it. The tree trunks stay dark and vertical, almost like brushstrokes anchoring the composition, while the leaves dissolve into a golden wash.

For the second, I waited until the rain began to cascade down the glass. The individual drops give way to streaks, and the trees themselves seem to shimmer. Orange and gold bleeding into each other with almost no hard edges. It reads like an Impressionist painting of autumn.
