Artist Statement

JB Haber has been hailed as one of the great photographers of our time. Not really ... but if you've made it this far on my web site, thanks for looking around, seeing what my art is about and feeling enough to stick around and learn more.

About my vision: I try to see things at different scales: close-up detail, wide landscapes and everything in between. I often start close, a bee on a flower, a bird on a branch, because getting close is how I notice things people often walk past. Then I pull back to bigger scenes: mountains, glaciers, open sky. Same idea, different distance.

The same subjects often appear multiple times, the same bluebird, the same goldfinch, and I might edit each one differently. Sometimes that means realistic color and detail. Sometimes it means turning a photo into something more painterly or abstract. I like seeing how far an image can go from where it started.

The goal is simple: create art that grabs someone's attention right away, then rewards them for sticking around and looking closer.

About Me

I'm Jonathan Haber, based in the Washington, D.C. area.

The act of photography is only the first step for me. I use my "digital darkroom" the way photographers once used a darkroom, to realize the vision I had for an image in the first place.

I don't lead workshops, but I do enjoy travel and a wide variety of photography, from wildlife and landscapes to more abstract, painterly work.
